This Lunar New Year, Chatswood Chase invites visitors to experience Junying Flowing Light, Chasing the Wind for a Thousand Years - a contemporary, walk-through installation inspired by the ancient art of Chinese paper cutting.
Traditionally seen as symbolic window decorations, paper cuts are reimagined here as an immersive world of light, shadow and movement. Using the hollowed techniques of traditional paper cutting, the installation creates layered forms that visitors can move through, experiencing the beauty and craftsmanship of the art form on a new scale.
At its centre, a galloping steed leads the other eleven zodiac animals forward, symbolising momentum, renewal and the journey toward a prosperous year ahead. As light filters through the sculptural forms, shifting shadows bring the story to life — evoking the power and rhythm of thousands of horses in motion.
Blending tradition with modern design, the installation celebrates the zodiac, cultural heritage and new beginnings, offering a meaningful way to welcome Lunar New Year.
Discover the installation at Chatswood Chase and step into the year ahead with light, movement and intention.
